TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Football team fell to No. 17 John Carroll University, 34-7, on Families Day and Hall of Fame Day. After HU scored on their opening possession, the Blue Streaks scored the final 34 points en route to the victory.
In the loss,
Montavious Yearbyran for 101 yards, surpassing the 100-yard plateau for the 17th time in his illustrious career.
Heidelberg slipped to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in the OAC. JCU improved to 2-1, 2-0.
On the opening possession of the game, HU went 87 yards in 12 plays -- with a steady diet of Yearby. Facing third-and-11 from the JCU 19,
Drew Sims found Yearby wide open on the right side, thanks to some misdirection. Yearby caught the pass, sprinted toward the goal line and plowed his way into the end zone.
Branden Steckel added the extra point and HU led 7-0.
John Carroll answered with seven points on their opening possession, and both offenses seemed locked in.
The next 'Berg possession ended with a turnover on downs when Yearby was bottled up for no gain on fourth-and-one near the Blue Streaks red zone.
JCU led 10-7 after one and 17-7 at halftime. The visitors added 17 points in the third quarter as the HU offense sputtered.
Defensively,
Easton St. Clair had a career-high 13 tackles, including one for loss.
Sam Thompson forced a fourth quarter fumble on a punt, which was recovered by Heidelberg.
The Student Princes will look to rebound next Saturday at Muskingum. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
