ADRIAN, Michigan -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team dropped their fourth straight match Friday night against Adrian College, falling in straight sets to the Bulldogs. The hosts offensive attack was too much for HU leading to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 win.
Heidelberg falls to 11-6 overall, while Adrian improves to 5-6.
Anamya Truex led HU in kills with a team-high 11.
Lexi Evak tallied six and
Riley Tople added five of her own in the loss.
Bridgette Burrus managed 15 assists on the evening while
Maddie Reed notched eight.
On the defensive side of the net,
Nicole Thomas led the charge with 17 digs.
Lexi Wachtman and
Grace Dohanyos both tallied eight for HU.
Following an attack error from the Bulldogs in the first set, Heidelberg took the early 4-2 advantage. The home team did not back down and would score the next six out of seven points to take a 6-9 lead. HU tried to cut into the lead, but was unable to rattle off enough points resulting in the 25-19 loss.
Down 3-1 in the second set, the visitors scored the next three points to take a 4-3 lead following a
Nicole Thomas service ace. The match was back and forth throughout and saw a tie come at 13-13 when Evak punched one over the net for HU. After seeing their early lead slip away, the Bulldogs pulled away late to take the second set.
The visitors started set three strong but were not able to catch fire leading to the sweep for Adrain.
The Bulldogs were led by Mallory Dorow with 14 kills.
The volleyball team will be back on Tuesday as they travel to Earlham College to take on the Quakers. The match is set for 7 p.m.
