Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Faraj scores twice, Berg beats Geneva

TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University Men's Soccer team picked up its second consecutive win, upending Geneva College at Hidden Valley, 3-2. Senior Hussein Faraj scored two goals while Alagie Njie netted the game-winner in the victory.

HU improved to 3-5 on the year, while the Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-4-1.

The first goal of the game came in the 38th minute, as Faraj led the attack. He broke through on a long ball and found himself one on one with a hard-charging goalkeeper. Instead of trying to dribble around, Faraj cheekily chipped it over the goalkeeper's head and in for his first career goal.

The visitors would not be deterred as they netted two goals nearly six minutes apart and took a 2-1 lead into the half.

Just eight minutes into the second half of play, Faraj scored again on a kick from just outside the box.  A blistering right-footed shot found the right corner of the net.

In the 60th minute, Heidelberg regained the lead on a beautiful corner kick from Oscar Najera.  Najera's service found Njie just beyond the penalty spot.  The lanky freshman leapt and headed the ball into the top left corner.

After some hard fought back and forth action, in the 86th minute of action Geneva was awarded a penalty kick thanks to a Heidelberg handball in the box. The kick smashed the crossbar and bounced downward.  In the scramble for the rebound, Geneva was whistled for a foul.

Perhaps learning from a loss earlier in the season, Heidelberg deftly drained the remaining four minutes off the clock.

Heidelberg tallied six shots on goal in the win while the visitors mustered ten. Goalie Bradshaw Uhlmann tallied a season-best nine saves.

The men will be back on Saturday as they will host Oberlin College in a non-conference clash. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. following the women's match against Bluffton.
