Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX holds on for a senior day win!

TIFFIN -- On Senior Day, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team emerged victorious in an all-out battle against the Wilmington Quakers. After holding a four-point lead at halftime, the Student Princes held on for the 7-6 win. Four players scored in the final home game of the season.

With the chance to send it into overtime, Wilmington took a one-on-one shot with four seconds remaining. The hero of the game, Wilson Runnette, sprung quickly into action for the winning save.

Prior to the game, seniors Maximillian Hatty, Jaydon Septer, Quincy Grevious, Connor Reese, Jacob Brickman and Keegan Logsdon were honored.

Hatty, Jacob Morgan and Benjamin Evans all lead with two goals apiece, followed by Jaydon Septer with one.

Down two starters on the attack, the Student Princes relied on the veteran Septer to step up.  He answered the call and put in the first goal of the game at 12:17. Just under a minute later, Wilmington would follow suit. However, a quick lightning delay would put a damper on the Quaker momentum.

Returning from the break, Evans laid one in with 2:18 left for a 3-1 edge to end the first.

Later, Evans would find his second of the day on a man-up opportunity at 12:39 in the second. Off of a Hatty assist, the clean lay-in started a boost of 'Berg confidence.

In the next four minutes, Jacob Morgan and Hatty would each pick up a goal of their own – while shutting out the Quakers. HU hit the locker room with a comfortable 5-1 lead.

Wilmington did not give up. Inching closer, they scored three goals bringing the score within one, 5-4. The Tricolor would put a halt to their drive with a Hatty goal at 2:24, thanks to a pass from Morgan. One more Quaker goal in the third would leave the hosts with a one-point advantage, 6-5.

Morgan picked up his fifth goal of the season just under three minutes into the fourth. A scoreless period seemed as if the Student Princes were in the clear until 4:17 when Wilmington brought it back within one.

From there, they would take three more shots – none of which found the net.

Braxton Hammond tallied five ground balls, followed by Trevor Ley with four. In total, HU managed 34 compared to the opponents' 22.

Strong on defense, junior Kevin Smith caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

In goal was Runnette, who tallied 12 saves, bringing his season total up to 214. He sits atop the OAC in saves and moves into the second-most single-season saves for the Heidelberg program.

Heidelberg will wrap up their season next Wednesday as they travel to John Carroll University for a 7 p.m. match.
