TIFFIN -- Behind nine multi-hit performances, the Heidelberg University baseball team split a home doubleheader with Muskingum University. The Muskies won 4-2 in the opener before Heidelberg had a 13-6 victory in the nightcap.
The Student Princes snapped a five-game skid with the win in game two, moving to 13-19 overall, 5-9 in the OAC.
Braedy Limke led HU with five hits on the day, driving in three.
Andrew Cook notched four hits while Garrett Labeau,
Reece McNeely,
Adam McVicker, and
Andrew Pokley all had three hits apiece.
GAME ONE: MUSK 4-8-1 BERG 2-10-1
After a 36-minute lightning delay after the top of the first, Muskingum scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings.
Heidelberg broke through in the bottom of the third.
Reece McNeely doubled to left center and moved to third on a bunt single by
Braedy Limke. McNeely scored on a
Camden Farley ground out before
Adam McVicker doubled home Limke. The Muskies avoided more damage with a leaping grab on a liner to second off the bat of
Andrew Pokley.
Despite a lot of base runners, neither team scored after the third. The teams combined for 13 runners stranded over the final six innings.
Jackson Powers (4-3) gave up four runs in five innings of work.
Zane Mirgon worked the final four innings, scattering two hits and fanning four.
Jake Roshau (3-4) threw a complete game for the Muskies, working around 10 hits.
GAME TWO: BERG 13-17-2 MUSK 6-12-0
With two outs and runners on second and third, Pokley served a soft single to left. Limke scored easily and
Aidan Corrigan narrowly beat the throw home, slapping the plate with his left hand on a head-first dive.
Ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third, HU added a run when Cook doubled to right center, scoring Pokley from first.
In the fourth, Limke tripled home Labeau with a shot up the gap in right center. One batter later, Corrigan pounded a single past the drawn-in first baseman for an RBI.
Back-to-back pitches drawn by Cook and McNeely helped Heidelberg score another run in the fifth. Limke delivered the RBI single.
Ahead 6-1 in the sixth, the Student Princes added six. McVicker tripled off the top of the wall in right center and scored easily on a line drive single to center by Pokley. A pair of walks loaded the bases and sent the Muskies to their bullpen. Labeau greeted the reliever with a double to left center on a 3-2 pitch, plating two.
Kyle Krummen followed with a two-run triple into the right field corner. Krummen scored on a Limke ground out.
The Muskies answered with five in the seventh, but Heidelberg halted their momentum with an RBI single by Krummen.
Corbin Caplan (3-3) threw six strong innings -- allowing one run on six hits. Out of the bullpen,
Vincent Marimpietri fanned three in two innings of work.
