TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team snapped a two-game skid with a hard-fought 7-3 win over visiting Earlham College on Wednesday. The Student Princes had six goal scorers in the victory which bumped The Berg back to .500 at 2-2.
Jaydon Septer and
Connor Reese got HU off to a hot start, scoring unassisted goals within the first four minutes of action. HU rode the 2-0 lead into the second quarter.
Rayce Septer took a feed from
Benjamin Evans and beat the Quaker goalkeeper with 10:11 left in the second quarter. Earlham cut into the 'Berg lead with a goal midway through the period.
Tyler Alexander closed the scoring in the first half with a man-up goal.
Jacob Morgan opened the scoring after halftime, giving HU a brief four-goal advantage. Earlham's Elijah Gamber answered less than 30 seconds later.
The Student Princes closed the third quarter with goals from Evans and Alexander, and led 7-2.
Earlham scored the lone goal of the fourth, as Gamber scored his second midway through the period.
Defensively,
Jonathon Brickman racked up five caused turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
In goal,
Wilson Runnette made 15 saves on 18 shots.
The Septer brothers were a combined 8-of-10 in faceoffs.
Heidelberg will wrap up their three-game Spring Break homestand on Saturday when Anderson University visits Hoernemann Stadium. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start
