Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB cruises past Comets 68-42

TIFFIN – Paced by a blistering first half, the Heidelberg University men's basketball team picked up their second straight win, defeating the Capital Comets, 68-42, at home. With the win, Heidelberg (15-7, 10-5 OAC) clinched a berth in the six-team Ohio Athletic Conference tournament.

Wednesday was the first time Heidelberg held an opponent under 50 points since a 68-46 victory over Penn State-Altoona on Dec. 30, 2006. This is the lowest point total against a conference opponent since a 64-45 victory over Ohio Northern on Feb. 5, 1992.

The Student Princes had three players in double figures, with Seth Hohman's 15 points leading the way.  Hohman added a team-high eight boards, three steals and two assists.  Brady Bosma had 13 points off the bench and Emmanuel Perdue added 10.

Heidelberg took control of the game early and never looked back. A huge Eric Panning slam after a feed from Emmanuel Perdue ignited the crowd on the first possession of the contest.  The blazing first half propelled the Student Princes to a huge 20-point lead with seven minutes to go in the half.

The Berg shot a blistering 56.3% from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-13 (46.2%) from beyond the arc.  The journey to HU's 44-21 halftime lead was methodical -- bolstered by a 9-0 run midway through the frame.

While the 'Berg offense sputtered in the second half, the HU defense played a huge role in maintaining a sizable lead throughout the second half.

For the game, the Student Princes forced 18 Comet turnovers and were able to garner 22 points from the miscues. The Comets shot 26.6% from the field and only 20% from 3-point land.

Capital was led by Carter Combs and Griffin Doseck with eight points apiece.

With his 10 points on Wednesday, Perdue raised his career point total to 1,155, surpassing Randy Evans (1997-2001) for 18th all-time at Heidelberg.

The Student Princes have won by more than 20 points in each of their last three regular season home games against Capital.

In the OAC standings, HU is in sole possession of third place -- three games behind second place Mount Union and two games ahead of Otterbein and Marietta.

Heidelberg is back in action Saturday for Senior Day as they take on the Otterbein Cardinals. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
