ADA -- The Heidelberg University Women's Basketball team was defeated on the road, falling to Ohio Northern, 66-47 Despite a 13-point effort from
Elisha Carter, the Student Princes slipped to 3-4 overall, 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Heidelberg struggled early in the first, unable to find a basket until a
Cheyanne Bean free throw three minutes in. The Student Princes would go on a 9-2 run to end the quarter.
Jewel Persinger drilled a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to bring the gap within 10 at 21-11.
Neither team could find a rhythm going into the second quarter.
Emma Keto took the lid off the bucket with a 3-pointer at eight minutes, forcing an ONU timeout. They would respond by outscoring Heidelberg, 13-4, to the end of the half for a 33-18 advantage.
Morgan Altenburger opened the third quarter with a nice shot from deep, carrying the momentum into the next possession for a layup thanks to a Bean assist. Later,
Ashley Ballard hit a 3-pointer as well, followed by an
Elisha Carter layup on the fast-break pass from
Chloe Gilbert. Carter would hit two more threes in the last three minutes, bringing it back to a seven-point lead.
Keto and Ballard would both put in two more from deep in the fourth before the Polar Bears ran away with a 66-47 victory.
