Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Perdue and Leitwein lead the way at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio -- Behind a 21-point night from Emmanuel Perdue, the Heidelberg University men's basketball team earned an 84-72 victory at Capital University on Wednesday night.

Perdue's performance came on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Zane Leitwein enjoyed a nice game, shooting 6-of-9 from the floor and finishing with 14 points. Isaiah Young dished out a team-high five assists and contributed 13 points.

The win was the second 12-point victory in the Greater Columbus area this week, coming on the heels of Saturday's 74-62 win at Otterbein.

For the first five minutes, it was back-and-forth scoring until 13:59 when Heidelberg went on a 9-3 run – in which Zane Leitwein and Jacob Logsdon each found a triple.  Down 17-11, the Comets countered with a 10-2 push and led 21-19.

Heidelberg closed the half of a 12-2 run, fueled by seven points from Emmanuel Perdue.  The swing turned a five-point hole into a 36-31 advantage at halftime.

The Student Princes carried the momentum through halftime, kicking off the second half with a 14-4 run. The burst was highlighted by seven points from Leitwein.

With ten minutes remaining, Perdue unleashed with two layups and a free throw, widening the gap to a 17-point lead.

The hosts did not go quietly.  The Comets embarked on a 7-0 run just after the midway point of the second half.  Undaunted, the Student Princes answered with a 5-0 mini run that halted the Capital momentum.

Eric Panning punctuated the victory with a dunk late in the game. The junior finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

With the victory, the Student Princes (11-3, 6-1 OAC) remain in a tie atop the OAC standings.

Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday when they play host to Marietta College.  The men's game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip, with the women's game to follow.
