VB quickly swats Yellow Jackets

DEFIANCE -- In their first true road match of the year, the Heidelberg University volleyball team made quick work of host Defiance College on Wednesday night.  The Student Princes attacked at a .270 clip and won 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.

Heidelberg improved to 4-1 on the season while Defiance slipped to 1-4.

Liana Petitti had 12 kills on 26 swings, hitting .423, while Lexi Evak added nine kills and a .444 attack.

Setting the attack, Julianna Pena had 12 assists, Bridgette Burrus had 11 and Kelsey Custenborder added nine.

Heidelberg built substantial leads in all three sets, controlling the pace of play throughout. The leads allowed Head Coach Jason Miller an opportunity to tinker with his rotation.   In all, 18 players saw action in the rout.

Lexi Evak led the team in blocks, knocking down two solo blocks and two assisted.

Libero Nicole Thomas was the only Berg player in double digits after a quick match, she picked up 15 digs for the night. Sadie Estle followed by getting nine of her own.

Heidelberg travels to Upstate New York for a Saturday tri-match with host SUNY Geneseo and St. Johns Fisher.
