GENESEO, NY -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team traveled east to Upstate New York for two matches on Saturday. Heidelberg (5-2) came away 1-1 on the day by defeating SUNY Geneseo in five sets and dropping three close sets to St. John Fisher.
Three Berg players totaled 10+ kills on the day, led by
Liana Petitti's 19.
Lexi Evak had 16 and
Sadie Estle tallied 14.Â
Offensively, Heidelberg was led by
Julianna Pena who amassed 41 assists on the afternoon. Petitti also led the team in aces with seven of her own.Â
Defensively, junior
Nicole Thomas led the team in digs, totaling 42 in both matches. Behind her was Petitti with 24,
Grace Dohanyos grabbing 12, and
Kelsey Custenborder with 7.Â
In the opening match of the day, Heidelberg took down SUNY Geneseo (1-4) in a toe-to-toe battle in five sets 25-17, 17-25, 11-25, 25-20, and 15-11.Â
The Berg dropped game two in straight sets to St. John Fisher (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) who improved to 2-2.Â
Heidelberg will be back in action on Wednesday, September 14th, as they travel to Hiram College for a midweek clash. Start time is set for 7 p.m.Â
