Box Score HIRAM, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team traveled to Hiram College for a match against the Terriers, but a first-set win wasn't enough against an electric crowd of students and fans on Wednesday night.

Heidelberg falls to 5-3 in the early season, while Hiram advances 6-3.

In four sets, the Terriers broke from the leash and ran away. The Student Princes struggled to rally together and find a rhythm. HU was eventually outmatched by Hiram 3-1 (16-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21).

Heidelberg dominated the first set in what looked to be a smooth match ahead. They kept a comfortable lead throughout and easily ended on top.

Hiram reversed the momentum early in the second set and carried it into the third.

The final set was the best chance for a 'Berg comeback as they took the lead 19-18, but couldn't hold on.

The Lexi duo led the kills category for HU. Lexi Wachtman struck down nine, while Lexi Evak tallied seven.

Kelsey Custenborder provided 14 assists and Julianna Pena followed with eight.

Libero Nicole Thomas and Pena, guided support as they combined for 33 digs on the night.

The HU volleyball team will make their next appearance this weekend as they travel to ONU for a tournament. They will face Denison on Friday at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, the squad faces Depauw at 10 a.m. and Earlham at 3 p.m.
