TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team hosted Westminster College on Saturday afternoon as part of Family Weekend. HU was able to hold the Titans scoreless for the game while scoring a goal to claim the victory 1-0, snapping a frustrating two-match winless streak.
Despite the visitors controlling much of the play in the first half, Heidelberg (2-2-2) got on the board first. The Berg capitalized on a shot in the 32nd minute when freshman
Syd Hewer knocked in her first career goal off an assist from
Audrey Kaufman.
The second half was all defense as neither team struck gold. Heidelberg ended up outshooting the Titans on goal with nine to eight.
Senior goalkeeper
Meredith Bruce was a wall in goal totaling nine saves on the afternoon.
Bekah Thomas saw a season high four shots in the win.
Heidelberg's five-game homestand continues on Wednesday as the Student Princes host Hiram College. Kickoff at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex is slated for 4 p.m.
