ALLIANCE -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team got to within one in the fourth quarter, but was unable to maintain momentum in a 10-4 loss at Mount Union on Saturday. Heidelberg had four different goal scorers in the game.
Down 4-0 early in the second,
David Weaver took a pass from
Jason Mills and put Heidelberg on the board with a man-up goal. Mills picked up a goal of his own late in the second. The man-up goal, which came with 40 seconds left in the half, gave HU momentum going into halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, but goals by
Tyler Alexander and
Ben Evans pushed Heidelberg to within one at 5-4.
Mount Union answered quickly and made it a 6-4 lead. The Purple Raiders would score the final five goals of the game.
Cian Howery stopped 23 shots.
Jacob Morgan had a team-high five ground balls.
The game marked the return to Alliance for Heidelberg Head Coach
Mark Cyron. Cyron spent four seasons as an assistant coach for the Purple Raiders.
Heidelberg returns to action on Thursday night. The Student Princes will host Muskingum at Hoernemann Stadium, starting at 7 p.m.
