TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University baseball team suffered a 7-2 setback at home against Denison University on a frigid Tuesday at Peaceful Valley. Heidelberg racked up 10 hits but failed to find the clutch hit, stranding three runners on third throughout the contest.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first,
Robert Hunt marked his return to the lineup with a base hit to left. He scored when
Eric DeVore hit an opposite field home run to right field.
Heidelberg rode the 2-1 lead into the fifth, where Denison put five runs on the board. The Big Red added an unearned run in the eighth.
Camden Farley, DeVore and
Keaton Mark all had two hits on the day.
Dylan Matusak started and threw a career high four-plus innings. He struck out three. Weekend starters
Brady Knizner and
Ross Thompson each threw two innings of relief and fanned three apiece.
Zane Mirgon worked a scoreless ninth.
The Student Princes return to action on Wednesday evening under the lights at Wittenberg. The frigid first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
