Baseball gets tripped up on Saturday

TIFFIN -- Heidelberg University baseball has seen better days at Peaceful Valley.  The Student Princes dropped a pair of contests to Wilmington College, 4-0 and 17-3.  The losses snapped a string of 22 consecutive wins over the Quakers.

GAME ONE:  WILM 4-10-2   BERG 0-6-1

Wilmington scored once in the second and three times in the sixth.

Making just his second start of the season, Tyler Shaneyfelt stymied the Student Princes.  He fired a complete game shutout, scattering six hits.  He also saved the Quakers pitching staff with his 133-pitch outing after Wilmington played twice on Wednesday and twice on Friday.

Corbin Caplan (1-3) picked up the loss for Heidelberg, going 5.1 innings and allowing six hits.

GAME TWO:  WILM 17-18-0   BERG 3-7-3

The Quakers carried momentum into the night cap, taking the lead with a three-run homer in the top of the first.

Camden Farley launched his seventh home run of the year in the bottom of the first, a solo shot to left center.

Heidelberg inched closer in the second.  Keaton Mark walked and stole second.  After advancing on a ground out, he scored on a base hit by Memphis Cutshall.

Wilmington erupted for seven runs in the third and three in the fourth.  They added four in the seventh.

Salvatore Rocco hit a pinch-hit home run in the sixth, energizing the sun-drenched Berg faithful for a bit.
