DeVore and McVicker go back-to-back in loss

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Back in action after enjoying a day off in the Florida sun, the Heidelberg University baseball team fell to Lebanon Valley, 9-7. Heidelberg slipped to 3-4 on the season.

The Dutchmen jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, but Heidelberg powered their way back into the game. With two outs, Eric DeVore hit a three-run homer to left that cut the deficit in half.  Adam McVicker followed with a homer to right.

Thomas Sauer rocked a two-run, game-tying double in the top of the sixth, plating Seth Scoville and Cayden Rollins.  During Reece McNeely's at-bat, the Dutchmen tried to throw behind Sauer at second.  The throw was offline, then mishandled in center, which allowed Sauer to cross the plate with the go-ahead run.

Lebanon Valley retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double, and added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Student Princes only had four hits on the day, but utilized four walks, four hit batsmen and five errors to their advantage.  The Dutchmen had 13 hits and drew six walks.  Heidelberg's defense committed four errors.

On the mound, Alec Zoeller allowed six runs, three earned, in 2.1 innings.  Ryan Keane struck out five in 3.0 innings of work.  Ridge Clark and Payton Moser worked the final 2.2 innings.

The Berg will look to rebound on Thursday when they face St. John's at 1:30 p.m.
