Mark homers in loss

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University baseball team lost a tight game on the road, falling to Ohio Wesleyan, 3-2.  The Student Princes led 2-0 early, but OWU surged back in the middle innings.

Heidelberg, now 6-8 overall, head into conference play at Mount Union this weekend.

Keaton Mark put HU on top with a solo home run to left field in the first inning.  In the third, Robert Hunt singled to right center and moved to second on a wild pitch.  After advancing on a ground out, he sprinted home on a sacrifice fly by Eric DeVore.

Heidelberg carried their 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth.  The Battling Bishops scored a pair of runs, tying the game.

OWU took the lead in the fifth without the aid of a base hit, using a walk, two wild pitches and a sacrifice fly.

Desperate to find the tying run, the Student Princes stranded two runners in both the eighth and the ninth inning.

Starter Jake Hall went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits.  Jackson Powers (0-1) worked 1.1 innings, fanning two and allowing one run.  Cayden Rollins and Ridge Clark combined for three innings of scoreless relief.

OWU pitchers limited Heidelberg to six hits on the afternoon.

Saturday's doubleheader at Mount Union may be postponed because of the weather forecast in Alliance.  All updates will be posted at BergAthletics.com and @BergAthletics on Twitter.
