TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University softball team lost both halves of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, falling to Alma College. The Scots beat the Student Princes, 7-1 and 8-0.
Heidelberg was held to a combined eight hits on the afternoon.
Meghan Bame collected three of the eight.
Alma used a methodical approach to do their damage in the first game, scoring single runs in each of the first three innings, then adding two in both the fifth and the sixth.
Heidelberg's lone run of the afternoon came in the fourth inning.
Emma Dean reached on an infield single and moved to second on a ground out by
Gabbie Stallbaum.
Maddie Gossard roped a double to left which allowed Dean to score easily.
The Scots scored a run in the second inning of the nightcap, taking a lead. Alma then proceeded to score seven runs in the third.
The Berg turned in a strong defensive effort, including a diving catch on a foul ball by
Madison Mosier and two catches by
Hanna Blasinsky on the warning track in left.
The Student Princes won't have much time to dwell on the sweep. The team visits Adrian College on Monday for a twinbill. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
