WBB drops home game to Capital

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team suffered a disappointing six-point setback on a Wednesday evening in Seiberling Gymnasium. Capital University went on a 23-4 run over a seven minute stretch en route to a 67-61 road victory.

Heidelberg had four in double figures, led by an 18-point effort from Hallie Rogers.  Lily Sweeney hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points.

Bailey Walter had 11 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds.  Marissa Thomas had 10 points.

Heidelberg (3-18, 2-12 OAC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a Sweeney triple-hit sandwiched between two layups by Walter.  Though Capital tied the game at 11, the Tricolor led 18-14 after one.

The Berg pushed the lead out to as many as nine in the second quarter and led 30-21 with 1:59 left in the half.  Brooke Ommert ignited a quick, game-tying 9-0 run before intermission with a pair of layups.

Knotted at 30 to start the third, Capital (5-16, 2-11 OAC) opened with a 14-4 run.  Heidelberg answered with a spirited 8-0 jaunt, highlighted by a three-point play from Rogers and a 3-pointer by Sweeney.  The Comets were able to stave off the 'Berg charge and led 52-45 after three.

In the fourth, 3-pointers by Sweeney and Rogers brought HU to within a pair on two separate occasions. The Comets got big-time buckets from Ommert to maintain their lead down the stretch. Ommert finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Capital outrebounded Heidelberg, 57-35, and held a 22-6 edge in bench points.

The Comets committed 24 turnovers which led to 22 points for Heidelberg.

Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday at Otterbein.  The start time is scheduled for 5 p.m. to accommodate the All-Ohio track meet hosted by the Cardinals.
