Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Woo! 'Berg picks up 35-point win over Fighting Scots

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team enjoyed its largest margin of victory in the Rachel Ferri era, pummeling the College of Wooster, 80-45. In the victory, a total of nine Student Princes scored, including four in double figures.

Hallie Rogers had a career-high 20 points, hitting three 3-pointers and notching three steals.

Alyssa Martin dropped a career-high 10 points and added a game-high seven rebounds and six blocks.

Heidelberg, now 2-6 on the season, held a 44-28 edge on the glass and a 28-6 edge in second-chance points.

Playing with confidence and tenacity, the Student Princes jumped out to a 9-2 lead over the game's first four minutes.  Heidelberg found success driving to the basket in the early going, scoring 20 of their 27 first-quarter points in the paint.

Ahead 27-12 after the first quarter, maintained the intensity into the second.  Because of their presence in the key, Heidelberg was able to open up shots from the perimeter.  Bolstered by 3-pointers from Rogers and Sequoia Bradley, the hosts methodically built a 28 point lead at halftime, 48-20.

After shooting 58.8% in the first half, Heidelberg shot 33.3% in the third and was modestly outscored, 13-12.

Smith and Machiaha Irving helped Heideberg bounce back in the fourth.  The Student Princes outpaced the Fighting Scots, 20-12 in the final 10 minutes.

Both coming off the bench, Elisha Carter added 12 points and Bradley added 11.  Collectively, HU's bench held a 47-22 edge in scoring.

Heidelberg's 27 points in the first quarter were the most in an opening period for the Student Princes since a 28-point outburst against Olivet on Dec. 11, 2019.

The 35-point margin of victory was HU's biggest since they beat Manchester by 45 on Dec. 30, 2019, 93-48.

Ella Biondi led the Fighting Scots (1-7) with 18 points.

Wednesday's matchup between Heidelberg and Wooster was the first since the 1989-90 season.

The Berg hits the road on Saturday for an OAC tussle at Wilmington.  The women's contest will follow the men's game, which is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
