Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lions take down WBB

CINCINNATI – The Heidelberg University women's basketball team played in the final game of the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic against host Mount St. Joseph, but fell, 79-63. The home team controlled the game throughout most of the contest and improved to 1-2 on the season.  .

Two 'Berg players scored in the double digits in the loss. Bailey Walter notched ten points in her second consecutive game in double figures and Taylor Ratliff tallied a game-high 19 points for Heideleberg.

Both teams would start the game cold, as the first basket came at the 8:30 mark when Walter laid one in for two. But, the home squad would catch some fire and rattle off the next eight points to stretch the MSJ lead to 8-2 with 6:24 remaining in the quarter. Heidelberg would battle back to tie the game at 19 at the end of the first.

The second quarter also started slow, but the Lions would get on the board first from a jumper from Madison Drummonds to make the score 21-19. The visitors' cold spell would continue as the home squad would stretch their lead to 29-19 midway through the second quarter of action.

The Mount's stifling defense would hold Heidelberg (1-2) to only four points in the quarter and would take a 31-24 lead at the break.

After halftime, The Berg was determined to cut into the deficit and they did just that when Sequoia Bradley knocked down a jumper to make the score 36-33 with 6:13 left in the third. But the home squad would not cave to the comeback and would take a 53-48 lead into the final quarter of action.

The fourth quarter would be dominated by the Lions as they would outscore Heidelberg 26-15 enroute to a 79-63 victory for the home team. Walter and Cheyanne Bean had six boards each.

The Student Princes pulled down 54 rebounds compared to The Mount's 41 in the loss.

The Heidelberg women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, November 16th, as they will host Wittenberg for their first home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
