WSOC shuts out Marietta on senior day 2-0

TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team couldn't ask for a more perfect Senior Day, occurring on Homecoming weekend with beautiful weather. They faced Marietta in a brawl that ended in a 2-0 Student Princes victory.

Heidelberg improved to 6-7-2 and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Marietta fell to 3-10-1 and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Seven seniors and three grad students were recognized before the game: Meredith Bruce, Megan Hamilton, Victoria Perez, Ainsley Tucker, Lexi Langwasser, Audrey Kaufman, Liv Bean, Sydney Shaffer, Bekah Thomas and Courtney Moggio

In the first half, Syd Hewer struck gold -- finding her second collegiate goal at 24:32. The freshman picked the ball up off of a Marietta pass, which she shot straight at the goalie. Madison Miller fumbled the catch and it sailed straight into the net for a 1-0 'Berg lead.

With 11:06 left in the second, Madi Lause took a strong shot past Miller, who didn't flinch. Assisted by Audrey Kaufman, that was Lause's fifth goal and Kaufman's league-leading seventh assist of the season.

The defensive backline helped save numerous shots. In goal, Meredith Bruce had five saves of her own.

In total, Heidelberg outshot Marietta 22-12.

The Heidelberg women's soccer team will be on the road for their final two games of the season. On Wednesday, they travel to Columbus where they will face Capital for a 7 p.m. start time.
