TIFFIN – The Heidelberg men's soccer team competed against Otterbein on Saturday afternoon. At halftime it was knotted 1-1, but the Student Princes couldn't hold on and lost a tough second half, 7-1.
Heidelberg falls to 0-13-1 (0-5 OAC) while Otterbein improves to 8-1-3 (2-0-3 OAC).
What started out as an evenly matched game, Heidelberg's
Zane Paul teamed up with
Simon Joseph to score the first goal of the game 21 minutes in. The goal was Paul's second of the season and the assist was Joseph's first since 2018.
Otterbein fired back eight minutes later, sneaking one past
Sigurd Ilestad on a sneaky cross into a header.
The chemistry started to come together for the Cardinals after the half as they scored their last six goals in a span of 15 minutes.
In goal, Ilestad had a dozen saves, bringing his season total to 79 – tops in the OAC.
The Tricolor were out shot by Otterbein 36-6. Otterbein also won on yellow cards, earning two compared to Heidelberg's one.
Heidelberg men's soccer will be at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night as they face the Yellow Jackets in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
