NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Heidelberg University Men's soccer team traveled to Muskingum University on Saturday to open conference play with the Muskies. While the Berg kept pace, it was not enough, resulting in a 2-1 defeat.
Heidelberg falls to 0-9-1 while Muskingum improves to 2-6-0
In the first half of action, Heidelberg was down 1-0 early but a
Zane Paul goal evened things up at 1-1. This was Paul's first career goal and the assist came from teammate
Josh Daum which was his first of the season. On a corner kick, Daum sent the ball into the penalty area where Paul deflected it in with a header.
The Berg would go into the break down 2-1.
The second half of action was all defense from both sides. The visitors did out-shoot the home squad 11-3, but the Student Princes were unable to find the equalizer.
In goal for Heidelberg was
Sigurd Ilestad, who tallied three saves on the evening.
The Student Princes will be back in action on Wednesday to take on John Carroll University. The home match is set for 4 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
