WILMINGTON --
Emmanuel Perdue had a game-high 21 points as the Heidelberg University men's basketball team overwhelmed host Wilmington College, 86-60. The Student Princes led 40-18 at halftime en route to their 14th win of the season.
Perdue was one of three in double figures for the Student Princes (14-3, 9-2 OAC).
Zane Leitwein shot 66.7% from the floor and finished with 14 points.
Dylan Woods filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Eric Panning set a career high with 14 rebounds.
Close for the first seven minutes, the complexion of the game changed midway through the first half.
Tre Watkins hit a jumper, recorded a steal, then buried a 3-pointer -- igniting a 10-0 run capped by a triple from
Isaiah Young.
Heidelberg closed the first half with a 14-0 run over the final 4:09, taking their 22-point advantage into halftime.
Wilmington (4-14, 2-10 OAC), which shot a mere 18.8% in the first half, sprang to life after intermission. The Quakers scored 42 points on 17-of-39 shooting (43.6%). The Student Princes never relented, though, shooting a robust 54.5%.
The Student Princes held a 20-2 edge in fast break points and a 31-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Young and
Nakhi Taylor both finished with nine points.
With 14 wins overall and nine in conference play, the Student Princes have equaled their high-water marks in both during the
Andy Bucheit era, which dates back to the 2013-14 campaign.
Heidelberg is scheduled to hit the road again on Wednesday, traveling to John Carroll for a 7 p.m. tip.
