MARIETTA -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team, on the road for a second time this week, lost to No. 22 Marietta College, 91-52. The Pioneers were dialed in from long distance, making 18 3-pointers in the win.
The Student Princes, now 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the OAC, was led by
Marissa Thomas. Thomas had 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor.
The Pioneers led 23-9 after one and 49-18 at halftime. They shot 47.9 from the floor and 52.9 from beyond the arc.
Heidelberg was 5-of-13 from deep, but shot 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the line. The percentage was HU's best since shooting 87.5% at the stripe at Albion in November.
Marietta held an 18-3 edge in second chance points, and an 18-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
In her return to the lineup,
Alyssa Martin tied a career-high with four blocked shots.
The Student Princes return to action on Wednesday when they host Ohio Northern. Gametime is slated for 7 p.m. No attendance restrictions are in place, but all fans are reminded that Heidelberg's mask policy will be strictly enforced.
