Springfield, OH – Heidelberg University volleyball split their Saturday matchups to close out the weekend at the 2021 Wittenberg University Fall Classic.Â

The Berg battled Wittenberg to a tough 0-3 (14-25, 18-25, 18-25) loss, and rebounded in the second contest with a convincing, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-21), win over the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers.
After a four-set victory over Alma College on Friday night, the tri-color faced tough competition Saturday morning. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in each set and the Student Princes were unable to battle back.
Senior
Maddie Szawranskyj led the Berg offensively with nine kills and a team-high four service aces against the Tigers. Defensively, senior
Sarah Oney tallied a match-high 17 digs followed by Szawranskyj and
Julianna Pena with five each. Pena led the Berg with 15 assists followed by
Kelsey Custenborder with seven.

In the final contest of the weekend, the Student Princes bounced back to dismiss the Fightin' Engineers in straight sets and improve to 8-3 overall.

Junior
Liana Petitti and sophomore
Anamya Truex tallied double-digit kills to lead Berg in the win over Rose-Hulman. Petitti and Truex collected 11 and 10 respectively, followed by
Sadie Estle (8) and
Ashley Foster (7).

Petitti also tallied 17 digs and a match-high three service ace, while Pena and Custenborder each finished with two. Pena led the Berg in assists with 25 followed by Custenborder with 17 in the victory.

Defensively, Oney led the way once again with 25 digs.

Heidelberg volleyball returns to the court on Wednesday, September 22, when they travel to Granville, Ohio to battle the Big Red of Denison University. The first serve goes up at 7 p.m.
