BEXLEY -- On a chilly Friday afternoon, the Heidelberg University softball team split a pair of games with Capital University.
The Student Princes are now 6-10-1 overall and 5-9 in OAC action. Capital moves to 5-9.
GAME ONE: BERG 2 CAPITAL 10 (Five Innings)
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning,
Bailee Faulkner hit a solo home run to put the Student Princes on the board.Â
Capital plated two more runs in the second inning and one in the third to lead 7-1.Â
Emma Dean hit a double to right center field in the fifth inning to earn an RBI.Â
Capital scored three times in the fifth inning and won by run rule with a sacrifice fly to center field.Â
Caitlin Dems pitched four innings in the loss and allowed seven hits.Â
Dean and
Leah Bouillon led The 'Berg with two hits each.Â
GAME TWO: BERG 9 CAPITAL 3
Heidelberg scored early in the second game with a single to center field from Dean allowing
Hanna Blasinsky to score in the top of the first inning.Â
Capital evened the score in the bottom of the third inning with a home run to left field.Â
The Student Princes fired back with three runs in the top of the fourth.
Brooke Lewis shot a double to left-center field, allowing Faulkner to score.
Raye Hammond doubled to center field allowing pinch-runner
Courtney Bryson to score from second. Then
Riley Cruse earned a hit to left field, bringing Hammond home.Â
Capital plated one run in the fourth on a single to left field, and one unearned run in the fifth.Â
A double from
Brooke Lewis allowed Bouillon to score for Heidelberg to make the score 5-3 in the sixth inning. Lewis was picked off later in the inning at home.Â
The Student Princes increased their lead in the seventh inning with four runs.
Kat Brady scored from a throwing error at third base after an infield single from Dean. On the next play, Blasinsky scored from Faulkner grounding out to second. A single from Lewis up the left side scored Dean and put Bouillon on second base. Next in Heidelberg's batting order was Hammond who hit a single to center field, scoring Bouillon.Â
Heidelberg held Capital to one hit in the bottom of the seventh to win 9-3.
Lewis led the Student Princes with four hits and three RBI.Â
Riley Cruse earned her third win of the season with nine hits allowed in seven innings.

Heidelberg will face off against Capital for a doubleheader at Frann's Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
