Oney hits 1,000 digs in split

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University volleyball team snapped a seven-match skid in a doubleheader split with Mount Union on Friday. The Purple Raiders won three tight matches in the opener while Heidelberg rallied back to win a five-set thriller in the second.

In the process, junior libero Sarah Oney surpassed the 1,000-dig threshold for her career.

Heidelberg moved to 6-8 on the season.

Mount Union (5-9) won all three sets of game one by a score of 25-23.  Heidelberg took sets onem, four and five in the second game -- 25-17, 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 18-16.

Maddie Szawranskyj had a team-high 30 kills on the day, hitting .263.  Anamya Truex contributed 28 kills and hit .350.

Kelsey Custenborder tallied 45 assists.

Evenly matched throughout both games, the Purple Raiders and Student Princes delighted the crowd with long rallies and acrobatic defensive work.
