Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball goes 0-1-1 on Saturday

NEW CONCORD -- The Heidelberg University baseball team walked away from a doubleheader at Muskingum with a loss and a tie.  HU fell in the first game, 12-1, then rallied to tie the nightcap at 7 with a run in the ninth.

Heidelberg slipped to 10-11-1 overall, 7-10-1 in the standings.

GAME ONE:  MUSK 12   BERG 1 (7 innings)

Three consecutive doubles in the third helped the hosts take a 3-0 lead over Heidelberg.

Down 4-0 in the fifth, HU manufactured a run.  Kyle Jenkins was hit by a pitch, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Robert Hunt.  After moving to third on a passed ball, Jenkins scored on a single by Cayden Rollins.

The new-found 'Berg momentum was short-lived. The Fighting Muskies erupted for eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fifth.  They would ride the 11-run lead through the seventh, securing the mercy rule.

GAME TWO:   BERG 7   MUSK 7 (Final, 9 innings)

Rollins got HU off to a hot start in the nightcap, with a solo homer to left in the top of the first.  Muskingum got the run back on a double in the bottom of the inning

After the Muskies plated three in the bottom of the third, Marc Ochoa led off the fourth with a solo home run to right.

Trailing 5-2 in the fifth, Heidelberg tied it up. Reese McNeely drew a leadoff walk, then stole second.  Following a bunt single by Hunt, Doran doubled to left, scoring two.  He tied the game on a ground out by Rollins.

Still tied at five in the eighth, Heidelberg took a lead.  Ochoa singled, then scored on a double by Aidan Corrigan.

A pair of two-out RBI singles in the bottom of the eighth gave Muskingum a 7-6 lead.

In the ninth, Doran reached on an infield single and moved to second on an errant throw.  A wild pitch and a hit batsman put runners on the corners with one out.  Ochoa delivered a game-tying single to left.

After a 1-2-3 ninth, the umpires deemed it was too dark to continue -- halting the game in a 7-7 tie.
