WSOC concludes season with win

NEW CONCORD -- The Heidelberg University women's soccer team concluded its 2020-21 season with a win at Muskingum University. The Student Princes defeated the Muskies 3-0 on the final day of OAC regular season competition.

Heidelberg concludes its 2020-21 season 1-6-2, while the Muskies fall to 0-9.

The first goal for Heidelberg came in the 27th minute with a score from Makenzie Damsa with an assist from Bekah Thomas. Heidelberg had a free kick near the midfield line, on the kick Thomas put her foot on the ball but could not direct it toward the goal. Instead, she set up Damsa in front of the goal with a small gap between the Muskie defenders. Damsa took a touch to her left and fired with her left foot past the Muskingum goalkeeper.

In the 58th minute, Victoria Perez added a second goal to Heidelberg's tally. Perez managed to put her head on a corner kick from Megan Hamilton. The header went to the upper-middle section of the goal, over the Muskie goalkeeper's hands for a score.

Heidelberg's final goal came in the 88th minute from Macy Zachary on a penalty kick. Thomas was fouled on a crossing ball from Heidelberg in the penalty area. On the kick, Zachary buried the ball in the lower-left corner of the goal, beating the goalkeeper and giving The Berg a 3-0 lead with under two minutes of play remaining.

The Student Princes peppered the goal with 32 shots, 17 of which on goal, and held an advantage in corner kicks 7-3.

Meredith Bruce recorded three saves in goal.
