TIFFIN -- The hunt for the first win of the season continues for the Heidelberg University men's soccer team after they fell to Ohio Northern University, 6-2. A late flurry of goals in the first half by the Polar Bears proved to be the difference in the match.
The Berg slipped to 0-6 on the season while ONU improved to 2-3-1.
Spencer Tredwell and
John Gall each tallied goals for a 'Berg team which had been desperate for some offense.
Scoreless for the first 32 minutes, Ohio Northern broke through in the 33rd minute with a goal by Levi King. From there, the Polar Bears would add three more before the end of the first half.
Down 5-0, Heidelberg scored their first goal in the 65th minute. Off a restart from the right side,
Josh Daum played the ball into the penalty area where
Spencer Tredwell spun and fired a shot on net that beat ONU goalie John Lombardo.
In the 77th minute, a set piece from the left side yielded another Heidelberg goal. The ball floated into the box where
Riley Bartels headed it down to
John Gall. Gall, who had curled around a group of defenders, took a brief touch before slipping it past reserve goalkeeper Josh Ellis. Gall's goal made it 6-2.
ONU held a 25-5 edge in shots.
After the holiday, Heidelberg will resume action on Monday when they visit Mount Union. Kickoff in Alliance is slated for 7 p.m.
