MARIETTA -- The Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team was defeated at Marietta 12-5 on Saturday afternoon. The Student Princes led the contest early but ultimately were defeated.
Heidelberg slipped to 0-8 and Marietta improved to 3-5.
Marietta scored in the opening five minutes on a man up opportunity. Then
Gianna Ricci scored, then
Dana Dudley followed with a goal one minute later. Both goals were unassisted. Marietta netted three more goals to lead at halftime 4-2.
Trailing 9-2 in the second half,
Brianna Lloyd scored with an assist from
Angela Lulejian. Lulejian also scored a goal of her own, assisted by Ricci. The final goal of the game for HU was scored by Lulejian with two minutes remaining in the contest.
The Pioneers out-shot Heidelberg 42-18. Marietta also led in ground balls 39-16.
Mandi Phillips recorded 18 saves in the loss.
Heidelberg will travel to Muskingum University next Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
