Berg men suffer tough loss at ONU

Ada, OH – The Heidelberg University men's soccer team battled a stout Ohio Northern University squad to a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night.

The Berg men slip to 5-8-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Polar Bears improve to 8-6-2 overall, 3-3 in conference play.

Despite registering 18 shots, equal to the Polar Bears attacking effort, the Berg struggled to find the target, placing only four shots on goal.

Ilyes Bouguetof led the Heidelberg effort with six shots, one on frame, followed by Rafael Bellucci Marin's three shots, one on target. The quartet of Hussein Faraj, Timothy Zack, Isaac Wienen and Kelly Itito finished with two shots each in the setback.

Berg goal keeper Sigurd Ilestad was busy under the lights of Kerscher Stadium as the Sem, Norway native tallied eight saves, elevating his campaign total to 76.

The Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, forcing the Berg to adjust and find an equalizer. Playing from behind early on, the tri-color maintained the attacking pressure but couldn't find the right combination to best ONU netminder John Lombardo who was called upon only twice.

The Heidelberg men return to action on Saturday, October 23, when they welcome the Purple Raiders of Mount Union to the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
