Box Score Tiffin, OH – The Heidelberg University men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback against the Mount Union Purple Raiders on Saturday afternoon.
The Student Princes struggled on the attacking side of the ball registering six shots.
Kelly Itito led the Berg effort with two shots, tallying the lone shot on goal for the tri-color.
In the 39th minute, Nick Demonte assisted Jamon McCort to put Mount Union on the board. Two minutes later, the Purple Raiders drove into the Berg penalty area and senior defender
Jarod Chavez was whistled for a foul. Mount's Ryan Sarkisian rifled the penalty kick past
Sigurd Ilestad to move the Berg deficit to 2-0.
As time expired in the first half, Mount Union's Christian Egan snuck a high shot past Ilestad sending the scoreline to 3-0 in Mount's favor. Ilestad finished with four saves, moving his season total to 80.
The Student Princes couldn't find the right combination to cut into the Mount advantage in the second half. The setback moves the Student Princes to 5-9-1 overall, 1-4-2 against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents. Mount Union improves to 9-4-2 overall, 2-4-1 in the OAC.
Heidelberg men's soccer returns to action on Wednesday, October 27 when the Student Princes host OAC foe John Carroll University at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. Kick off is slated for 4 p.m.
