WESTERVILLE – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team struggled in a 7-0 loss at Otterbein University. The host Cardinals used an unrelenting attack, amassing 34 shots to propel themselves to the win.
The Student Princes fell to 8-5 (1-4 Ohio Athletic Conference) while Otterbein improved to 11-1 (5-0 OAC).
The Cardinals set the tone early, scoring a goal in just the 3rd minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Another goal in the 22nd minute made it 2-0 before a pair of goals in the final 5 minutes of the half put Heidelberg in a 4-0 deficit entering halftime.
HU was unable to get their offense going after the break, as Otterbein tacked on three more goals to make it a 7-0 final in favor of the hosts. A corner kick in the 84th minute proved to be the best opportunity for the Berg, but it was not converted as they ended the match scoreless.
Meredith Bruce had a busy day in goal for the Student Princes, making 13 saves on the 34 shots by the Cardinals.
Heidelberg will look to get back on track on Wednesday when they return home to face Ohio Northern. That match is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM at Hidden Valley.
