Tiffin, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's basketball team improved its 2021 record to 2-0 with a resounding win against Capital University. The win was scarcely in doubt as the Student Princes led for 36 minutes of the contest, and had the advantage in nearly every stat category.

Alex Arellano filled up the stat sheet with 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists -- all team highs.
Dylan Woods had a season-high 21 points along with five rebounds, knocking down a game-high three 3-pointers.
Nahki Taylor was 5-6 from the floor, scoring a career high 14 points.

After three lead changes early in the first half, Heidelberg took the first substantial lead with a 12-6 run with minutes remaining in the period. Capital scored three three pointers in the first five minutes to take the largest lead of the contest for the Crusaders.
Woods and Taylor held up the Heidelberg offense in the first half with a combined 19 points in the first 20 minutes of competition with Woods contributing heavily to the Student Princes run late in the half.
Arellano kicked off the second half with five points and an assist for Heidelberg in the opening minutes, the senior contributed a whopping 17 points in the second half.
A 10-0 run by the Crusaders brought Heidelberg's lead to just 10 points with nine minutes remaining in the contest at 56-46 with 9:38 to play. The Student Princes, however, responded with a 21-6 run over the next seven minutes, led largely by Arellano and Woods.

1. Heidelberg was active in the passing lanes, disrupting the flow of the Capital offense. HU turned the ball over nine times, while the Crusaders tallied 17.
2. The Student Princes relied heavily on the starters, who contributed 86.7% of the scoring

Inside the Box Score
The 17-point win was Heidelberg's biggest margin over the Crusaders since a 78-51 win at home on Jan. 19, 2000.
Emmanuel Perdue and Nahki Taylor each tallied three steals. The pair combined for six steals in the season opener.
