TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's lacrosse team picked up a resounding 13-4 win over Franciscan University on a snowy Tuesday evening at Hoernemann Stadium. The victory marked the first at HU for first-year head coach
Ryan Kuhn.
Emmy Flottman-Mullen had four goals and an assist, all of which came in the second half as the Student Princes pulled away from the Barons.
Angela Lulejian tallied three goals in the game.
Mandi Phillips made five saves in the win, and did not yield a goal in the second half.
Heidelberg outshot the Barons, 29-10.
After a lengthy preseason of training, the Student Princes showed they were ready to compete by scoring the game's first five goals in under 10 minutes, all from different players.
Angela Lulejian,
Kelly Spence,
Brianna Lloyd,
Anna Winnicki, and
Dana Dudley all added tallies.
However, Franciscan answered back with a free position strike from Maria Hilkert to slow the offensive flurry.
After Hilkert's goal, Lulejian and Winnicki each netted another goal to extend the team's lead to 7-1.
Once again, Franciscan responded, scoring three goals in the final 3:18 of the half to close out the half with the score 7-4.
With both offenses frozen early in the second half, the score remained 7-4 for the first ten minutes of the second half.
Emmy Flottman-Mullen scored twice in quick succession -- at 19:41 and 19:09 -- to give Heidelberg a 9-4 edge. Moments later, Flottman-Mullen had an assist on a
Jenna Carman goal that just beat the shot clock horn.
Ahead 10-4, Heidelberg continued to pad the lead with Lulejian and Flottman-Mullen -- the third of the game for each. Flottman-Mullen tacked on her fourth with 6:13 to play.
From there, HU cruised to the victory.
Franciscan was led by a two-goal effort by Grace Deegan. Dominique Tedrow made nine saves in the losing effort.
Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday on the road at Franklin. Game time on Leap Day is slated for 1 p.m.
