TIFFIN --
Emmanuel Perdue scored a career-high 30 points to lead Heidelberg to their third straight win, and second OAC win in as many games on Wednesday night at home to Ohio Northern. Perdue, along with double-figure outings from
Dylan Woods and
Alex Arellano, pushed The Berg to a 70-51 final score at the end of the night.
Perdue's blistering night came on an efficient 11-of-17 shooting the ball, which included a 6-for-7 success rate from 3-point range. Balancing out the box score, Perdue added five rebounds, and a steal on the night.
Dylan Woods scored 18 points and grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and swiped two steals, while
Alex Arellano contributed 13 points and two boards.
Seth Hohman was the team's leading rebounder with eight.
Tamal Watkins passed out five assists to lead all players.
The first half proved to be "The
Emmanuel Perdue Show" as the sophomore guard poured in 20 points in just under 15 minutes of floor-time. The Polar Bears' defense set back off Perdue, allowing the left-hander 10 shots, five of which were from beyond the arc. On those attempts, Perdue was 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three.
Perdue's play, combined with a cool eight points off the hands of
Alex Arellano, pushed the Heidelberg (5-7, 3-2 OAC) halftime lead to 34-21 over the Polar Bears (4-8, 0-5).
Perdue kept up his sharp shooting in the second half, scoring another 10 points, for his first career 30-point outing in 'Berg colors.
Also in the second stanza,
Dylan Woods came alive helping keep ONU at arm's length for the majority of the game. After blanking on two field goal attempts in the first half, Woods was 5-for-9 in the second half, which included four successful 3-pointers. A pair of free throws brought the point guard's tally for the game to 18.
Heidelberg's stout defense on the night forced the Polar Bears into an astounding 23 turnovers, leading to 27 'Berg points off the extra possessions.
Even with ONU controlling the glass with 42 rebounds compared to HU's 34, the Student Princes managed 12 second-chance points on their nine offensive rebounds.
Perdue's 30-point outing was the first for the Student Princes since
Myron Prewitt netted 30 of his own nearly one year ago in a 92-65 win away to John Carroll on January 9, 2019.
Heidelberg's win over ONU was the first time the Student Princes have defended home floor against the Polar Bears since a 75-71 win on February 11, 2015.
After playing five straight home games, the Student Princes will hit the road this Saturday for No. 8 Marietta College. Tip off along the Ohio River is slated for 3 p.m.
