Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Defiance slips past Heidelberg

TIFFIN -- A change in field locations could not exorcise the offensive demons for the Heidelberg University men's soccer team.  Despite dominating possession, the Student Princes were unable to finish in the offensive zone in a 1-0 loss to visiting Defiance College on Saturday.  The game was moved from the grass surface to Hoernemann Stadium on Saturday morning because of heavy overnight rains.

Tied at halftime, Defiance scored the game's only goal in the 65th minute.  Armando Campos-Ortiz had a beautiful strike from distance.

Heidelberg's best opportunity came midway through the first.  Bryce Zeleznik, the Defiance goalkeeper and the ball all converged near the penalty spot.  Zeleznik was able to poke the ball between the keeper's feet into space.  Off balance, the Heidelberg junior was only able to get a toe on the ball.  As it slowly trickled toward the net, Defiance's Carson Macklin slid in and kicked it away.

The Student Princes (2-5-1) outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-10, including a 10-2 edge in shots on goal.  HU amassed 11 corner kicks, while Defiance tallied two.

Zelenik and Cory Gilbert each finished with five shots.

Conference action begins on Saturday when Heidelberg visits Wilmington.  Kickoff with the Quakers is slated for 7 p.m.
