WILMINGTON — OAC play did not begin in favor of the Heidelberg University men's soccer team on Saturday night away to Wilmington College as they fell by a final score of 3-0.
The Quakers (8-2-1, 1-0 OAC) needed just 16 minutes to find the back of the net and added breathing room between the Student Princes (2-6-1, 0-1) over the course of the match.
The first goal came courtesy of a penalty kick from Wilmington's Nati Wallis at the 15:06 mark of the first half.
The hosts would double their lead just 10 minutes later with Zach Burgmeier's fifth goal of the season. The strike came from outside the area through traffic, catching
Ryan Newman off guard in the net for Heidelberg.
With the Berg pressing for a way back in the game, Wilmington sealed off the contest with their third of the night in the 84th minute. This time, Ian Molfenter tallied his fifth of the year for the Quakers.
Heidelberg managed just seven shot attempts on the night, with four of them coming on frame.
Kyle Morton was credited with two shots on goal, while
Bryce Zeleznik and
Cory Gilbert each tested the Quakers' keeper once.
Newman stopped three shots on the night in goal.
Heidelberg will return back to the field for their second conference match of the season on Wednesday night away to Capital University. Kickoff in Columbus is slated for 7 p.m.
