BEXLEY -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team was unable to find a second half equalizer and fell to host Capital University on Wednesday evening. A goal in the 11th minute by Sigurd snapped a string of nearly 225 scoreless minutes for the Student Princes, who fell to 2-7-1, 0-2.
Ilestad, who converted from goalkeeper to a field player this year, scored his first collegiate goal in the 11th. On a throw in from
Cory Gilbert, Ilestad won the ball in the air and headed it beyond the reach of Capital goalkeeper Kyle Morais.
The lead was short-lived.
On a Capital throw in, Greg Knox long-tossed it in to the far post. Amid the contact of the bodies converging inside the six, the ball ricocheted off Brandon Woo and into the net. The Capital equalizer came 19 seconds after the Student Princes had taken the lead.
Knox picked up an assist on the go-ahead goal 14 minutes later. A well-placed corner kick to the back post was headed in by Matt Scheper.
Capital (4-3-3, 1-1) outshot Heidelberg, 13-8. In goal,
Ryan Newman stopped two shots.
Heidelberg returns home to face Marietta College (5-6, 0-2) on Saturday. Kickoff at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
