TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team halted a two-game losing streak thanks to a 1-1 draw with Hiram College on Wednesday. The Student Princes had a chance to take a late lead, but could not convert on a penalty kick.
Heidelberg's moved to 1-3-1 on the season.
In the 13th minute, junior
Bryce Zeleznik scored his second collegiate goal on a free kick from 25 yards out. Zeleznik bent the ball around the wall and found the upper right corner.
The Student Princes took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Hiram (3-3-2) tied the match in the 55th minute. Keagan Le Roux took a feed from Brian Corbin and found the back of the next.
In the 87th minute, Ben Zuniga was whistled for an infraction in the box. Terriers goalkeeper Shelby Edwards made the initial save on
Cory Gilbert's penalty kick and
Sigurd Ilestad's attempt to hammer home the rebound.
Hiram held the edge in shots, 16-12. Heidelberg, though, held the edge in corner kicks, 13-6.
Ryan Newman made six saves in the tie.
Heidelberg returns to action at Oberlin in Saturday. The Yeomen and Student Princes are set for a 4 p.m. start.
