Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Student Princes suffer another agonizing loss

ALLIANCE -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team dropped a close match on the road yet again this season as they lost 2-1 to Mount Union.

The one-goal loss was the Berg's eighth of its kind this season, and second straight 2-1 defeat.

Heidelberg (3-11-1, 1-6 OAC) made their only shot-on-goal of the match count as Bryce Zeleznik scored in the 59th minute to cut the two-goal deficit in half. Unfortunately, the Student Princes could not muster another shot on goal to force a tie or go for the win.

With the score deadlocked at zero at halftime, Mount Union (9-2-4, 3-1-3) came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, driven heavily by the play of Jon Schroeder. Schroeder scored an unassisted goal in the 47t minute before setting up the game-winner in the 49th -- a goal by Austin Overy.

In the game, Ryan Newman was credited with three saves in net for Heidelberg, while Zach Hlas was not tested for Mount Union, other than on Zeleznik's goal.

Conditions in the driving rain made play for both sides very difficult on the skipping turf of Mount Union's stadium.

Heidelberg will travel to top-of-the-table and nationally ranked John Carroll on Wednesday. Kickoff in University Heights is scheduled for 7 p.m.
