Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Berg defeated by Cardinals on the road

WESTERVILLE -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team was upended on the road at Otterbein University by a final score of 3-0.

With the loss, Heidelberg slips back to 3-9-1 on the year and 1-4 in conference play. The Cardinals improved to 9-5, 3-2.

The Student Princes battled through the first half, taking five of their nine shots and holding the hosts to mere one shot on frame that was stopped by keeper, Ryan Newman

However, after the intermission, momentum swung heavily in favor of Otterbein. The Cardinals took 18 shots and scored three goals during the second half. Newman stopped five shots on target, for six saves on the afternoon.

Otterbein found the breakthrough in the 59th minute on a goal from Gabe Sharrock who finished off a pass from Kennedy Mensah to the roof of the net.

Mensah doubled their lead in the 78th minute as he coolly slotted home a penalty kick.  Nicholas Barnosky was whistled for a foul in the area resulting in the spot kick.

Just six minutes later, Otterbein sealed the game with their third on a counter-attack that was scored by Kyle Haberkorn. Pau Piang was credited with the assist on the goal.

For Heidelberg, Sam Federici and Kyle Morton led the team with two shots and one on goal each.

The Student Princes will return home to Tiffin as they host nationally ranked Ohio Northern on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
