GAME ONE: Heidelberg 2 Capital 1
Heidelberg broke a scoreless tie in the top of fourth inning, courtesy of Bailey Smith. Three straight singles from Erin Chapman, Casey Moore, and Smith put HU out in front 1-0. Smith's single to left center plated pinch runner Abby Barno.
The Crusaders led off the inning reaching on an error. A single advanced the runner to third and a squeeze bunt by Marisa Koss evened the game at 1.
With one out in the top of the seventh, pinch hitter Abbey McKee worked a walk before being lifted for runner Leah Bouillon. Another walk and a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third for junior Renee Lovett. Lovett slapped a single through the left side, bringing home the go-ahead run for the Student Princes.
Chapman worked a 1-2-3 inning for the win. The senior improves to 7-4 this season.
GAME TWO: Capital 11 Heidelberg 2 (5 innings)
The story was all Capital in game two, as the home team capitalized on HU errors, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second. Two throwing errors in the inning allowed Capital to send 10 hitters to the plate in the thunderous inning.
A Lovett single gave the Student Princes their first run of the nightcap, scoring Taylor Hicks from second.
Capital picked up where it left off in the bottom of the frame, scoring five. The Crusaders scored five runs off six hits, combined with a Heidelberg error in the inning.
A Megan Rutledge double in the top of the fifth gave Heidelberg its second run of the game, and the sophomore her second RBI of the season. HU could not tack on two more runs, causing the run-rule to come into effect.
Heidelberg returns to its home field on Saturday with an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum (11-15, 3-3 OAC). Game one first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
