Box Score MARIETTA – The Heidelberg University women's soccer team got back on track on Saturday with a convincing 3-0 win over Marietta. The Student Princes netted a pair of first half goals before scoring once more late to seal the victory.
With the win, Heidelberg improved to 8-9 (3-4 OAC) while Marietta dropped to 0-17 (0-7 OAC).
KEY STATS
Amanda Kilway, Denise Bowes, and Talia Tobin each scored goals for the Berg as they rolled to the win.
Alexandra Farmer picked up her 5th shutout of the season and now has 104 saves on the year.
There was not a ton of offense in the match, as Heidelberg out-shot Marietta 9-4 in the match, with all four of the Pioneer shots coming on goal.
FIRST HALF
Heidelberg got on the board in the 31st minute when Danielle Rathfon played a through ball to Kilway who shot it to the lower left, past the Marietta keeper to give the Berg a 1-0 lead.
The Student Princes quickly got back on the attack, as they were able to put up another score less than two minutes later. In the 33rd minute, Bowes tucked a ball into the upper left corner from about 20 yards out to make it 2-0.
That score held until halftime, as Heidelberg held a two-goal edge.
SECOND HALF
The Berg got a pair of shots on goal early in the half by Lindsey Marcum and Rathfon, but Marietta made the saves to keep it just a 2-0 game.
The Student Princes had a solid defensive effort, as they were able to keep the Pioneers off the board as the game wore on. Heidelberg tacked on one insurance goal late when Tobin scored off an assist by Kristen Keenan to make the final 3-0 in favor the Berg.

Head coach Nick Spell on the win in rainy conditions: "I think our girls did a good job of understanding the conditions. We talk about shape a lot and I think we did a good job of that in the first half. Finishing is something that we need to continue to work on, so it was good to see that we were able to get some goals.
UP NEXT
Heidelberg will return home for their final two matches of the season, as they look to compete for one of the six spots that qualify for the OAC tournament. The Student Princes will take on Capital on Tuesday, with that match scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
