Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Heidelberg University softball team dropped the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University, 4-2, 3-2, to move back to 7-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Student Princes were led by the efforts of their two right handed aces, Paige Atterholt and Erin Chapman.

Atterholt earned the ninth win of her sophomore campaign in an eight hit, two run, three strikeout performance. Chapman claimed her ninth win of the season by surrendering six hits, and two runs while striking out four. The sophomore-freshman combo enter the last leg of the 2014 season with record of 9-4 and 9-6 respectively.

Game one looked to be a pitchers duel until The Berg got on the board in the top of the third. Sophomore first baseman Marissa Smego tapped a two out double down the right field line which plated fellow sophomore Lisa Simmons. Simmons finished two for two at the plate in game one with an RBI that came in the fourth.

In the top of the fourth the Student Princes extended their lead. Prolific senior Jami Wagner smacked an RBI single to center to push the Berg ahead 2-0. Simmons earned her RBI on a sacrifice fly to center, which plated freshman Taylor Hicks.

Freshman Caiti Overholt earned the Berg's last run of the fourth by scoring Wagner on a double to left center.

The Blue Streaks collected their only two runs off of Atterholt in the bottom half of the fourth with a two RBI double by Angelia Locey.

Atterholt closed out the Blue Streaks in their last three at bats by only allowing four hits.

Chapman, the freshman Holt, Mich. native gave up the first run of the game in the first on an RBI double up the middle.

The Student Princes answered with an RBI single from Kayla Zachrich in the top of the second. Wagner claimed her two RBI's in the second to put the Berg ladies ahead, 2-1. Wagner knocked a single up the middle that plated Zachrich and freshman Randi Kelsey.

The Blue Streaks attempted to erase the Berg advantage in the fifth with an RBI single to right field but Chapman and the Berg defense played tough to get back to .500 in the OAC.

The Student Princes will host the Quakers of Wilmington College tomorrow as the OAC schedule begins to draw to its end. First pitch from Jocko Huffman Field is slated for 1 p.m.
