Berg converts turnovers to points in 42-13 win

Two strip sacks and an interception yield touchdowns at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Treating their first-ever jaunt to Western Indiana like a business trip, the No. 25 Heidelberg University football team enjoyed a workman-like 42-13 win over host Rose-Hulman on Saturday. Alex Arledge threw for 291 yards and five touchdowns and the defense forced three turnovers as HU returned from their bye week with a resounding win.

Heidelberg improved to 5-1 overall while the Fightin' Engineers slipped to 4-2.

On their second possession, Heidelberg struck first. Arledge dropped a 41-yard pass over the defensive back and into the waiting arms of Aiden Bradshaw. Gryffin Bradley's extra point gave HU a 7-0 lead in the first.

On the ensuing RHIT possession, Daniel Goodson recorded a strip sack that was recovered by Andrew Szepiela. Drew Miller punched it in on third down, winning the race to the pylon on the left side to double HU's lead.

Ahead 14-0, The Berg added a touchdown in the second on a 28-yard pass from Arledge to Dmitry Peters. On 4th-and-6, Peters caught a pass right around the line-to-gain on the left side -- then spun out of a tackle and scampered the remainder of the way into the end zone.

Up 21-3, Heidelberg took possession near midfield with 39 seconds left in the first half. Unwilling to go quietly, the Tricolor quickly moved into the RHIT redzone on big catches from Bradshaw. On 1st-and-goal with 10 seconds left, Arledge connected with Knolan Albert along the back of the end zone.

In the third, Williams Betancourt notched a strip sack that was recovered by Thomas Zacharko. Arledge turned the turnover into points, hitting Mason Mossbarger with a 25-yard strike over the middle.

Austin Niederkohr picked off a pass on the next drive, and again, the Student Princes cashed in. Bradshaw hauled in a pass from two yards out.  Bradley's sixth PAT of the day was pure, and HU led, 42-6.

RHIT scored their lone touchdown of the game in the fourth. Heidelberg, meanwhile, was content to grind out the clock.
